Word for the Day: The Lord Is My… (Psalm 18:2-3) Who is the Lord to You?

Word for the Day is Psalm 18:2-3.  In verse 2, David describes 8 things who the Lord is.

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.  I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (Psalm 18:2-3)

The LORD IS MY….

1- Rock – stronghold, his refuge, where you are safe from enemies

2- Fortress – castle, defense, strong place

3- Deliverer – escape, save, carry away safe

4- God – Jehovah, the one true God, the mighty one

5- Strength – rock, cliff, refuge; strong

6- Buckler – shield, protector

7- Horn of my Salvation – strength or power to save, deliver

8- High Tower – High place, secure height, retreat, refuge

Horn of my Salvation

If you look at #7 further, it says the Lord is the horn of my salvation and not just salvation.  Horn is a symbol of power and strength that animals use as their defense (ie – bulls, elephants).  In order for them to use it, they have to move or push forward their horns to defeat the enemy.  God not only saves us, but flexes His power to save His people.  Know who the Lord is to you.

Trust In God

“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (Psalm 18:3)

In song, David was saying that just as God delivered him from past enemies, God will deliver him from future enemies, as he calls on the Lord and sing praises to God.  We should learn to sing a song of praises to God for our victory, even though you may not physically see it.  In verse 2, it says David put his trust in God.  That trust is having faith in God.  We must have faith in God and what His word says, and learn to look with the eyes of faith.

Psalm (Song) of David

David wrote this song when God delivered him from his enemies.  David took the time to praise God.  He loved the Lord and starts out Psalm 18 saying this.  Psalm 18 contains 50 verses and is a song David writes and sings about who the Lord God is to him.  Who is the Lord to you?
