World’s Definition
The dictionary says, it’s the amount of money that is available for, required for, or assigned to a particular purpose. That is the definition according the world’s economy. When people hear or see this word, they think it’s a bad word, and something most people don’t want to deal with.
The reason is it gives accountability to the income coming in to your household. Where does all the money go?! Yes a budget will tell you in black and white. The numbers don’t lie and maybe that’s the problem. It’s difficult to handle the truth presented to us.
God’s Definition
But what does God’s economy say about BUDGET?
B – Blessed
U – Under
D – Directed
G – Giving
E – Engages
T – Truth
Blessed
To be blessed also means to cause to prosper. When you bless someone, you want them to prosper and desire prosperity and success in their life.
Directed
We are directed by the Holy Spirit who is our Comforter and our guide. In the bible, in John 14:26 (NKJV), it says,
| “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” |
Giving
There are many scriptures in the bible about giving. One popular bible verse is, Luke 6:38 (NKJV).
| “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” |
Your attitude when you give is also important, for God love’s a “cheerful giver”, 2 Corinthians 9:7.
| “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” |
There is a quote from Bishop Hugh Thomas which clarifies this verse: ” “Love is trust with an attitude of giving.” © When you have love and trust, you are willing to give. God is looking at your attitude. He doesn’t need our money, but He is looking for our willingness to give it, and loving and trusting Him and what God’s word promises to us.
Engage and Truth
The word engage also means to attract, and hold by influence or power; to bind something. Truth is the word of God. We will engage the word of God in our giving.
In other words, “BUDGET” means, we are blessed when we are directed or guided by the Holy Spirit in our giving. When we are directed by the Holy Spirit as to what we should give, we engage or are bound by God’s word and it’s promises such as Luke 6:38, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, Philippians 4:19, Proverbs 10:22, just to list a few verses as to God’s promises to those who are guided by the Holy Spirit in giving. We can pray God’s word and His promises to us when we give.
This explains how important it is to PRAY! We have to be in prayer in our giving. We should be in prayer about every area of our life. God wants to be in all areas of our life, and not just a part of it.
